January 26

Swell – WNW 11’ @ 11 seconds.

Air Temp – Something in the 40’s.

Water Temp – It feels too warm to still be January...

Wind – Straight offshore at near Small Craft Advisory…!!!...

(above) After all these years, it still is a wonderful feeling to be the only one here, on what promises to be a decent day…

As you know, we’ve had, to put it mildly, a robust winter…

In October, I turn my windshield wipers on…

Today, I turned them off…

That’s gotta be some kind of good sign…

(above) A good sign indeed…

First look…

What would you be saying about now…???...

(above) Hmmm… Rights or lefts…???...

See that beautiful channel next to the Jetty…

It’s better than a best friend…

(above) I walked out the Jetty for a closer look at the Corner…

Here’s looking across the shipping channel towards Ocean Shores…

I’ve never seen this wave break…It’s out there…

(above) Don’t believe everything you read…

It’s a cakewalk…

A cake topped with tossed logs, winter slime, and seabird waste…

(above) Here’s why I swim twice a week. maintain a flexible work schedule, and prepare my clients for mid-week absences…

Bigger than it looks…

(above) Logs–O-Plenty have been tossed onto the Jetty this winter…

(above) Back on the bluff now, walking back to the Benz…

It’s almost time to put on the 6-5-4…

(above) You would not believe how consistent it was…

No lulls, no sets, just wave after wave after wave…

This really is about as good as it gets…

Any bigger, it gets pretty heavy…

Any stronger offshore it gets too bumpy…

Oh, what’s missing…???...Hint; remember that empty parking lot…

(above) OK, I wasn’t completely alone…

There were two other guys out, riding 6’3”s...

See the guy mid-peak…

Can you say under-gunned…???...

Remember, it’s always bigger than it looks…

(above) Figuring which board to ride was easy…

11’ @ 11 seconds demands an 11’6”…

Simple PNW trigonometry…

(above) I hit the water about 9:00 and surfed ‘till almost 2:00…

I easily caught between two and three dozen waves…

Really…

If I’m lyin’, I’m dyin’…

It was just a regular circuit of wave after wave after wave…

Close to a “Best-Ever” session…

(above) After getting back into dry clothes, I walked back to the Jetty…

By now the wind is blowing even harder…

These waves are easier to catch than they look, if you ride a 40# board…

Surprisingly, getting caught inside today just wasn’t much of an issue…

(above) Kinda purty, eh…???…

(above) Yeah, dreams still do come true…

(above) Dream on…
