February 1

Swell – WSW 7’ @ 14 seconds.

Air Temp – 19 degrees when I left my house…

Water Temp – Brrrrrrrrrrrr…

Wind – Absolutely Freeezing…

(above) Here it is the day before Groundhog Day…

The frozen tundra parking lot as empty as you’d expect considering the temperature…

(above) Nothing says “come play in the water” like a walk across frosty logs…

(above) This I could get wet for…

(above) I could risk hypothermia for this…!!!...

(above) Even if I come ashore in an ice cube, I’m going out…

And I did…

The early waves had a high tide bump to them,

but that settled out pretty soon…

These Corner waves were fast, with plenty of punch…

Again the 11’6” worked like magic…

(above) After 3 hours in the ice bath,

I was too cold to stay out much longer…

By now, the full on Thursday morning beach scene,

Westport style was happening…

(above) This almost looks warm, but it isn’t even close…

(above) The weather and swell this week have been perfect for these kinds of waves…

(above) It’s pretty rare for things to stay like this for an entire week, but they did…

(above) If you compare what I surfed last Friday to today, you’d have a hard time telling the difference…

(above) I got mowed by a few sets like this…

Brutally cold…

(above) This is what Global Warming PNW style looks like…

Barely visible are the icebergs on the horizon…

(above) Down the beach a sandbar has set up that’s been producing consistently all week…

That’s an 8’ wave…

(above) Back in the Corner, a look at the entirety of the mid-day crowd…

(above) An outside set with an easy 10 ft face…

Not often do I say much about the cold,

but today was one of the coldest I can remember…

Was it worth it…???...

Absolutely…

So, how has your surf been…???...

Paul - Still thawing out…

Back to >>>> Yeah, it gets good
