6'9" Hollow Wood Surfboard

April '03  - June '05


(Above) My friend Mike Cummins, had a favorite 6'9" Yater single fin, that he wanted to replicate as a hollow wood board...

Here, he's traced out the template onto a piece of 1/4" plywood that will be the part of the gluing form...

(above) Mike cutting out the gluing form... Also, a stringer for a 10'er is on the floor...

(above) Gluing forms and boards, new and old...

Mike built the frame to the point where it was ready for deck and bottom skins...

It stayed that way, collecting dust in my shop for a year...

Mike was busy with his art (Ceramics) and he allowed me to go ahead and finish his board for him...

(above) Here's the finished board...The deck is basswood & Cedar...The rails are 3/8" Bending Ply and Cork...

(above) The Leash Loop & Tail Block with a solid glass tip...

Board 10 is in the collection of Mike Cummins...
